Our toothbrush tale commences around 3000 BC when Babylonians and Egyptians ingeniously crafted toothbrushes by fraying twigs’ ends. In the 15th century, the Chinese entered the scene, fashioning toothbrushes with handles crafted from bone or bamboo and employing rugged pig hair as bristles. This concept gradually gained favor in Europe, where inhabitants favored the gentler touch of horsehair and feather bristles.
Fast forward to 1780, when Britons opted for cattle bone handles, setting the stage for further evolution. It wasn’t until 1844 that toothbrushes featuring three rows of bristles made their debut. In 1938, the illustrious American company DuPont revolutionized toothbrushes by introducing nylon bristles. Then, in 1959, E. R. Squibb and Sons Pharmaceuticals introduced the groundbreaking Broxo electric toothbrush, later known as the Broxodent, to the U.S. market.
